What can I expect at my first appointment?
During the initial session, we will first briefly go over some necessary information and paperwork. Then, I will ask you questions to learn about you, your presenting concerns, and your history. Together, we will determine your goals for therapy.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions you have depends on the nature of your concerns, how long the problem has existed, and how much time you are able and willing to spend working on your therapeutic goals. Some clients with specific behavioral needs only require 6-12 sessions. More commonly, therapy is a bit longer. If you have gone through trauma or neglect in your lifetime, you may benefit from longer term therapy. Sessions are more spaced out as time goes on. Ultimately, though, it is always completely your choice as to whether you are willing and able to continue therapy. I am not in this industry to waste anyone's time or money; I help clients with a celebratory termination process when their therapy goals are met!
Is what I share with you kept confidential?
In short, yes. The therapist-client relationship is a sacred, professional and protected one. As is standard practice, I do consult as needed with my licensed, experienced, and professional colleagues in order to provide you with the best treatment possible. Consultation is best practice, and I always conduct it as anonymously as possible.
